AUGUST 4TH
BALLOT AMENDMENTS
AMENDMENT 1 - VOTE YES
The state of Missouri already has a one tenth of one percent sales tax that goes to support clean water, state parks, and historic sites.
The tax is set to expire this year if it is not renewed.
If voters approve Amendment 1, this tax will be renewed for 10 more years.
AMENDMENT 4 - VOTE NO
The Citizens' Initiative Petition process is so important that it was included in our state constitution
This amendment would reduce/remove this option for citizens across the state.
Legislators would be able to change laws with 50% of the vote +1, while citizens could only amend laws with 65% or more of the vote.
Passing this amendment opens the door to Right to Work legislation.
Only 5% of the Missouri population would be able to stop any future citizens' initiative process.
AMENDMENT 5 - VOTE NO
Economists are calling Amendment 5 βThe Tax Everything Bill.β
If Amendment 5 passes, Missouri state legislators will raise state sales taxes on any goods and/or services, including many services that have never been taxed before.
Our current law states that any new sales taxes proposed by politicians must be specifically approved by local voters (The Hancock Amendment).
Passing Amendment 5 would allow politicians to raise sales taxes without a vote of the people.
66% of Missouri's operating budget currently comes from income tax. This money would now have to be raised using sales and use taxes.
Lawmakers cannot tell us the final impact of the bill, because the bill does not specify what will be taxed.
This change gives politicians too much power.
