MEET MEREDITH SUMENEK

Meredith grew up in the Midwest and was the first person in her family to graduate from college. Today, she is the president of the Tesson Ferry Democratic Organization, where she helps people learn about local and state issues and why it's important to be an informed and active voter.

Growing up, Meredith's family talked about politics a lot. They watched the local and national news together in the evenings. They had conversations about current events at the dinner table. Her mom came from a small town in Pennsylvania, a true "coal miner's daughter," where one company ran everything. Meredith's mom took her back there every summer as a child to visit. Her grandpa taught her about standing up for workers' rights, joining together to fight for fair and safe treatment for the men working in the mine, and speaking out when something wasn't right.

After college, Meredith worked in finance for over 20 years, crunching numbers and helping businesses grow. Over time, she was promoted to supervisor and then business manager. She eventually branched out and started her own small business. These jobs helped her learn how to make good decisions and fix tough problems.

Meredith has always felt a strong pull to help her community. As a young adult, she became president of her condo board. Later in life, she helped in her son's classroom and volunteered at his school. Over the years, she has taken time to speak up at various city and school board meetings to support positive change and fight for things she believes in.

As a wife and mom, Meredith's goal is to leave the world a better place for her son. She wants to help make life more affordable for everyone by ending taxes on groceries. She wants to make sure our public schools get all the money they are supposed to from the state to teach and support our kids. She also believes that leaders should listen to their voters and respect the choices they make at the ballot box. Meredith believes, "We deserve better!"
